How I Launched a Podcast in Seven Days

It’s been eight years since I’ve hosted a podcast. Instead, I’ve been helping clients produce, launch, and grow their shows. As we step into February and I celebrate 16 years in business (yay!), I am thrilled to announce I am also back in front of the mic with a brand-new podcast.

The podcast Generational Shifts explores the evolving landscape of parenting, health and wellness, and personal development. The first season features conversations from today’s leading professionals to help you gain new insight and tools for parenting in the 21st century. Together, we’ll uncover tools for navigating parenthood in today's ever-changing world.

Episodes will be released twice a month; the first episode is available now:
An Introduction to Generational Shifts.

You can find the podcast on your favorite podcast listening platform to get episodes as they are released. Be sure to follow or subscribe, and please share the podcast with others if you like what you hear!  Thank you. :)

How I Launched a Podcast in Seven Days

Since 2022, the concept of Generational Shifts has been brewing. However, it wasn't until 2023 that I felt the urge to take action. In December 2023, I began recording interviews with the intent of launching the podcast in January. However, January came and went, with the second to last week slipping by without much progress. I had compelling interviews and more lined up, but I needed to kickstart the process. Interestingly, while I excel at keeping my clients on track, I often struggle to muster the same motivation for my projects.

After a conversation with a friend who advised me to simply schedule "Do my podcast sh*t" on my calendar, I found the push I needed. Yet, even after marking it down, that designated day came and went, highlighting the common struggle with procrastination.

Then, on January 26th, I committed to launching. Here's a breakdown of the steps I took to launch my podcast within seven days, offering insights into the process from someone entrenched in the podcasting world:

  • January 26th: Compiled clips from interviews for Episode 1.

  • January 29th: Created the script and outline for Episode 1 and set the podcast launch date for February 2nd, marking out all Season 1 episodes on my calendar for accountability.

  • January 30th: Utilized a canceled interview slot to record and edit Episode 1, which took approximately 2.5 hours, including music search, transitions, and production of the standard intro and outro.

  • January 31st: Dedicated time refining my podcast website, removing outdated content, and optimizing pages.

  • February 1st: Unofficial launch day! Established a new podcast on my podcast host, created the RSS feed, uploaded cover art, published the first episode, wrote show notes, and generated a transcript. I submitted the podcast to various platforms and enhanced the website with an audio player and subscription options.

  • February 2nd: Official launch day! Focused on sharing and engaging with potential listeners across email and social media platforms.

Though it required intense effort, I managed to compress the process into a single week. Could I have spread it out over time? Certainly. However, after eight years from the podcast limelight, I harbored nerves and apprehension about putting myself out there again. Nevertheless, armed with insightful episodes, I couldn't delay sharing the brilliance of my guests any longer.
